1Who we are
Targo Academy ("Targo Academy", "we", "us", "our") is a language
academy operating online and forming part of a wider group of companies. This policy
explains what personal information we collect through
targoacademy.com, why we collect it, and what you can
require us to do with it.
It applies to this website and to the enquiries and bookings made
through it. It does not apply to any other website, including those we
link to.
2What we collect
We collect two kinds of information, and they are different in
character:
Information you give us. Your name, email address and
phone number when you submit a form, send us a message, or book a free
level test. If you become a student, we also hold the information needed
to teach you: your assessed level, your learning goals, and your lesson
history.
Information collected automatically. Standard
technical data that any web server records: your approximate location at
country or city level, your device and browser type, the pages you
viewed, and the site or search that referred you. This is aggregated and
is not used to identify you personally.
We do not ask for, and do not want, payment card numbers, government
identification numbers, or any sensitive personal data through this
website.
3How we use it
We use your information only for the purposes below:
- To reply to your enquiry.
- To arrange, conduct and follow up your free level test.
- To deliver lessons and communicate with you about your studies.
- To send administrative messages such as scheduling changes.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the website is used so we can
improve it.
- To meet a legal or accounting obligation where one applies.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we
do not make automated decisions about you that produce legal or similarly
significant effects.
4Our legal basis
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on the
following: your consent, when you submit a form or ask
to be contacted; the performance of a contract, when you
enrol and we deliver lessons; our legitimate interests,
in operating and securing the website and in responding to enquiries;
and legal obligation, where a law requires us to retain
or disclose information.
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing
consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
5Who else sees it
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We do
not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We use a small number of service providers to operate the academy and
deliver lessons. They process your information on our instructions, only
for us, and only so far as is needed to provide their service to us. They
are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do
so, or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal
claim.
6External links and third-party services
This website contains links to websites, platforms and services that we
do not own or control. These include social media platforms, messaging
services, and the websites of other companies within our group.
We are not responsible for the content, the privacy practices,
the accuracy, the security, or the availability of any external website
or service. A link is not an endorsement, and it does not imply
any association, sponsorship or partnership unless we have said so
explicitly.
Once you follow a link away from this website, this policy no longer
applies to you. The website you arrive at has its own terms and its own
privacy policy, and we encourage you to read them. Any information you
give to that website is given to its operator, not to us, and any dealing
you have with it is between you and that operator.
We review the links we publish, but websites change without notice and
we cannot monitor them continuously. If you find a link from our site
that is broken, misleading or inappropriate, please tell us and we will
review it.
7Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and equivalent storage. Some are
strictly necessary for the site to function and for you to stay signed in
where an account exists. Others, set by Google Analytics, help us count
visits in aggregate so we can see which pages are useful. Analytics
receives no name, phone number, email or message from our forms.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site
will continue to work, although features that depend on remembering you
between visits may not.
8How long we keep it
We keep enquiry information for as long as is needed to deal with the
enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards. We keep student records
for as long as you are enrolled and for a period after that, so we can
answer questions about past study and meet accounting requirements.
When information is no longer needed for any of these purposes, it is
deleted or anonymised. You may ask us to delete it sooner, and we will
unless we are legally required to keep it.
9Your rights
You may ask us to do any of the following, and we will respond within
a reasonable period and at no charge:
- Access — give you a copy of the personal
information we hold about you.
- Correct — fix anything that is wrong or out of
date.
- Delete — erase your information, where we are not
required to keep it.
- Restrict or object — stop or limit a particular
use of your information.
- Portability — provide your information in a
commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, where our use
rests on consent.
To exercise any of these, write to
privacy@targoacademy.com. We may
need to verify your identity before we act, so that we do not disclose
your information to somebody else.
10Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect
your information, including encrypted connections, access controls, and
authentication on any account-based area of our systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we
cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that is likely to
affect your rights, we will notify you and any relevant authority as
required by law.
11Children's privacy
We teach students of school age. Where a student is a minor, we deal
with a parent or guardian, and we expect enrolment and payment to be
arranged by them.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child
through this website without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If
you believe a child has given us information without that involvement,
contact us and we will delete it.
12International transfers
We operate online and serve students in several countries. Your
information may therefore be processed on servers located outside your
own country, including by the service providers described above. Where
that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains
protected to the standard set out in this policy.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services or our legal obligations
change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
Material changes will be made clear on the site rather than left to be
discovered.
Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept the
revised policy.
14Refunds
A course is a commitment on both sides, and this section says
plainly when money is returned and when it is not.
A refund is considered in two cases:
- the student held up their side in full — attended the
lessons, did the work that was set, and followed the plan — and
still did not get the benefit the course was built for; or
- the shortcoming was ours: repeated postponements, or a
failure by anyone at Targo Academy.
A refund is not available where the course was
not used: lessons missed without arrangement, work not done, or no
engagement with the plan — particularly once a course has been
built for that student and teaching hours have been paid for.
How a request is handled. Write to us at the
address in “Contact us” below and say what happened. The finance
team reviews the record of the course — attendance, the work set
and returned, and any postponements on either side — and prepares
a report. The decision, to approve or to decline, follows that
review, and you are told the reason either way.
Nothing here affects any right you have under the law that
applies to you.
